The Artist

Lauren Fryer is a self-taught artist who has explored collage and mixed media arts since 1997, and jewellery design since 2007. Born in Vancouver, Lauren's creative endeavours are steeped in a lifetime of exploring the diverse Pacific Northwest landscapes. Her travels in Asia and Europe, and the study of art, literature, and myth from other cultures, also profoundly influence her work.

Some current inspirations are "found in the organic forms of the natural world, objects shaped by the sea, and luminous qualities of light and colour. I create because I desire to instill in people a sense of beauty, of connection with simple truths and pleasures, and natural balances within our world."

what's a flyingsunfish?

"'Flyingsunfish' is a term that has been in my family for decades, as a form of benign and cheerful oath - for example, 'I don't give a flying sunfish about working inside today; I'd much rather go beachcombing.'"
